if you are immortal, you cant kill your way to victory. we might set up some kind of ritualized contest to settle disputes
Oh, yeah. I just figured humans would figure out ways to capture each other for long periods of time.

I guess I was asking how thoughts on religion would be.

one thing i dont know is how good our memory would be. if our memory cant handle our long lifespans, we will probably go through evolutions or maybe even cyclical personalities

on religion, im guessing less religiosity overall since mortality is a strong motivator for belief in the supernatural, the afterlife, and the question of bad deeds getting punished by some being or force in the universe. maybe people begin to think of themselves as godlike, or lack the impulse to consider these things altogether. there probably will always be some who are apocalyptic and will tell the other immortals that someday there will be an end to their immortality.

another important detail would be how the perspective of the oldest humans would differ from those who are later generations. do they understand how they got here? did that early period make them permanently different from later generations?

No need to reproduce if you are immortal.

:usure:

C'mon breh, being immortal would make people have more unprotected sex, because nothing would kill them. That means more pussies getting nutted in and more children being born. Eventually those children would have children, ad infinitum.

Truthfully Isaac Asimov dealt with this very issue in what I consider one of the greatest short stories ever, The Last Question. If anyone has a moment I would highly recommend reading it. Incredibly moving:wow:. Here is a link.

Don't buy it. People only want kids to carry on their line and that is moot with immortality. Having kids would be aversive.

It would be horrible because not only would we reproduce exponentially, but we would eventually witness the death of the universe around us. What then? :manny:
probably virtual reality. this is the logical outcome because a virtual reality is more customizable than physical reality can be so its something that we would always trend towards since immortal life in a virtual reality has zero constraints ie we make ourselves into gods

the main question then becomes whether to continue simulations of what is basically our current experience in the present day endlessly or to just hook ourselves up to a continuous never ending feeling of pleasure eg a never ending high

seems like the only two options given the existence of this kind of technology. kind of a let down when you think about it all. each of these options are inherently pointless in their own ways.

If humans were ants and possessed a hive mind I would agree with you, but we were cursed with free will. For every person who would not reproduce because of your logic, 1 billion more would reproduce just to have their bloodline the most dominant in the universe.

Virtual reality would require energy and eventually all the energy of the universe would run out. Eventually everything will obtain equilibrium and then the true nightmare begins for the immortals.

I think the world government would introduce population control and sterilization though :ld:

i dont have any kids but i assume people who do have them for a ton of reasons. some just want to go raw, others are vain enough to just want to see a version of themselves, others want to have influence over someone, some think kids cement a relationship, and of course there are those who want to compete and outnumber other "tribes" so to speak, and of course you get the people who want to live vicariously through someone else. even an immortal will have some desire for a talent that they dont possess but their kids may.

until overcrowding happens, there is little aversion. you dont even have to take good care of the kids since nothing you do will get them killed.
