Nah. Kanye has always been better at making songs but as a vocalist himself, he is clearly lacking. He lyricism is average, his delivery is average, the sound of his voice can't compare to Biggie or Wayne or even an Em, and then when you consider his budget for making albums is 50 x the amount of other hip hop artist, it makes his expensive, complex productions seem less amazing. Now if you want to talk about his status as a pop icon then maybe we can have a conversation but as a music artist, and especially in the context of hip hop, he is not one of the GOATS.

I don't think Kanye would be in my top 20. Had he kept his run of his first 3 albums going he probably would be, was a big fan.

Which is why I mentioned more than just MCing. Him as a emcee = average. Him as a producer and song composer = above average though you factor in his studio budget and it is less impressive

I just have a hard time saying kanye is the greatest rapper :manny:

I mean to me, without a doubt Ye is the greatest rap artist ever. From him being a great rapper, to the production, the songwriting, the discography is incredible. Everything really, the dudes got it. His flaws are balanced out by where he excels. I guess its sort of a "He exceeds rap" (:skip: I hate saying that) type of thing. He'll never be branded with the greatest rapper of all time title, but he'll be in the conversation for musician.

Yeah I'm bringing in budget. Not many other artist can afford to have people who are MORE talented than them come in and produce tons of beats for them and write their lyrics. Kanye is a good artist and an even better pop culture celebrity but his musical ability is overstated.

Kanye is the Jeff Koons, Damien Hirst, Murukami of rap lol

I thought I was the only one who thought that Kanye's body of work was nearly flawless and should get more props for being great producer.

Kanye has the vision to handle his music like a film director.

Plenty of other hip hop artists have his budget but they cant produce the same results.

At the end of the day its ALWAYS Kanye's ideas & vision.. every artist that works with him says this
