Modern automatics transmissions on normal cars require minimal maintenance-
Check transmission fluid levels, and replace the transmission filter at either 50,000 or 100,000 miles. (which not many people do) The cost of fluids is usually under $20. The transmission filter replacement may run 50 -100 dollars, but will probably be done only once in running a car for ten years.


Manual transmission will require clutch replacement, usually before 50,000, some times at 25,000.
This will require having your car in the shop for at least half a day (while the replacement only takes about an hour for most cars, you are unlikely to get a one hour turnaround from an auto repair shop)

Have you been on the road lately? Majority of people can't drive a Toyota Camry in a straight line without causing havoc. Driving is a skill of the past so this convo is pointless.
