Just started bouldering and calisthenics regularly for about a month now and I've become obsessed.

Great alternative for people that don't like going to the gym. I've always been active; playing soccer, running and cycling but I could never get into strength training at the gym, just couldn't get the motivation to go on a regular basis.

I feel kinda :flabbynsick: cause there's bare kids climbing the walls like it's nothing, but a lot of older folks at the climbing gym as well, which doesn't make me feel too bad. It's also cool seeing young black folks getting into it (gen z).

Definitely give it a shot if the gym ain't your thing, only thing is, is that's it's a bit expensive to get into.

White people will make the most basic activity an expensive hobby.

Jane: Hey you should stretch. It’s good for you.

Joe: That sounds good. Let’s do it!

Jane: That’ll be $50

Joe: To stretch?

Jane: It’s called yoga.

I can imagine what these rock climbing classes cost you.

Swimming is cheaper
Facts. The biggest reason why so many people can't get into it. Cost is bullshyt not gonna lie. Luckily I got in on New Years deal, which was 30% off the year. So the year membership was just under $600, which is similar to L.A. Fitness gym membership. Then I got the rock climbing shoes for 50% off at adidas.

I probably go to one of the more affordable gyms, but I still don't get why price is so high. Regardless though, a lot of people at peak times and most of them are regulars, I guess its becoming popular nowadays.

I've tried swimming on multiple occasions, and for some reason I just can't float properly, maybe it's mental.

First time I went rock climbing I got a harness and hit the highest wall. Climbed it in one shot no powder. The. Looked down after and peril set in. It was easy going up but not coming down.

Random Old cac in the locker room later. . Wow your the man with the long arms. Guess they were watching :mjpls:

Murdered their sport with ease... :yeshrug:

Yeah I have back problems so I don’t go to the gym and was told this is the ultimate rehab to strengthen the core
I'd say best shot is to look for local gym and see if they're running any promos. Like training session with rentals for cheap or a cheap 1 month membership with free rentals gear, to see if you enjoy it.

It's a good way to build the core though, for sure, you also want to do core and strength training on the side.

It was fun but it’s a real commitment to get good. Physically and financially and also time wise. Not that many rock climbing facilities. Also your grip l, forearm, and finger strength need to be right, wanna know the fastest way to improve those? Getting in the damn weight room and picking up weights

And it's for the young. Did a beginner route... Next day my body was done... It is a good mental and physical workout though.
I got a lot of aches and pains and I'm in my 20s. My lower body in particular has made me very uncomfortable.. there's a lot of flexibility involved, using momentum, turning, using the hips, knees, heels and toes. My hands are fukked up too. fukked up my shoulder/rotator cuff. My groin area/inside of the thigh is probably the worst feeling area on my body.

There's some 40/50 year olds at the facility I go to.. a lot of parents climbing with their kids.

This is just an alternative for brehs who don't like going to the gym. I think it's a really good starter, because once you start you're going to quickly realise that you gotta do supplemental training (body weights and weights), so eventually you're going to go to the gym. Swimming is also a great alternative.

The one I go to, has a weight room. I'm just starting with body weights.

I'm sure it has a lot to do with using parts of the body that we never use in daily life.

Just curious, which one do you go to?

I’d Google some actual rock climbing weight training but I’d imagine deadlifting, dumbbell circuits and pull ups would be top of the lists.

I'm living in Toronto, they have rock climbing facilities in the all the suburbs. There's not too many facilities though, like in Canada you'd have to be in a major city. In the states I know its popular in the west coast, better chances of finding facilities.

Next time I pass by buffalo, I'm going to check a facility there, there's a dude I follow and the gym he goes to seems to have some dope bouldering routes. Once I get good though.
