RTD sold more first week than Illmatic? 🤔
Ready To Die went gold in two months and was already platinum by early 1995
Illmatic didn't go gold until January of 1996 and didn't go platinum until December of 2001

Like I said, they both sold the same in their first week but RTD's hits kept its sales steady while Illmatic didn't have hits

Non-established artists always had low first week sales back then. Albums were growers

No cap, until this thread, I never realized illmatic moved more (60k) units than RTD (57k) first week.

RTD was obviously the more commercially successful album
