I'm a 5-6er.

I've found that when I'm working out regularly, I don't need as much sleep. Also, sleeping too much just keeps you tired.

Don't blindly believe these sleep less than 8 hours and die young/create health problems 'studies'. They're likely not correctly isolating the variables. I bet exercising has a far greater impact than just sleep, and they're including a lot of people getting 5 hours or less of sleep cuz they're working 3 jobs and are stressed out all the time.

Drop the stress, work out, eat right, get 5-6 hours of sleep on workdays and live bountifully brehs :blessed:

The smarter you are, the more time you can sleep. Smart people just know how to get all of their work done efficiently using the allotted hours in the day. When I did do office work, I never understood why some co-workers pulled all nighters. I was able to finish everything in a few hours. Then again, I was working on problems significantly tougher than what they were doing (outside of work; school+work). So I guess the fact that I trained my brain to tackle much harder problems played a role. That, and the fact that I prioritized sleep.

Coworker: what time did you go to bed last night?
Me: 1:30
Coworker: holy moly. How do you wake up at 6 am then?
Me: with an alarm
Coworker: oh man. cant function without 8 hours of sleep and coffee.

:dahell:

What type of sissy sh*t is that?

You cant call yourself a man if youre a sleepy head.
must be 21. lol.

so to the rest of you. Dont believe this nonsense. its not true at all. no matter how productive you are on 3 hours, 4 hours or 6 hours of sleep. more sleep the better you are, mentally and physically. the better you are the next day and the better you are the rest of your life.

lets state the facts:

Sleep Loss: 10 Surprising Effects

1. Sleepiness Causes Accidents

2. Sleep Loss Dumbs You Down
Sleep plays a critical role in thinking and learning. Lack of sleep hurts these cognitive processes in many ways. First, it impairs attention, alertness, concentration, reasoning, and problem solving. This makes it more difficult to learn efficiently.

Second, during the night, various sleep cycles play a role in “consolidating” memories in the mind. If you don’t get enough sleep, you won’t be able to remember what you learned and experienced during the day.

3. Sleep Deprivation Can Lead to Serious Health Problems
Sleep disorders and chronic sleep loss can put you at risk for:

4. Lack of Sleep Kills Sex Drive

5. Sleepiness Is Depressing

Over time, lack of sleep and sleep disorders can contribute to thesymptoms of depression. In a 2005 Sleep in America poll, people who were diagnosed with depression or anxiety were more likely to sleep less than six hours at night.

6. Lack of Sleep Ages Your Skin
Most people have experienced sallow skin and puffy eyes after a few nights of missed sleep. But it turns out that chronic sleep loss can lead to lackluster skin, fine lines, and dark circles under the eyes.

When you don’t get enough sleep, your body releases more of the stress hormone cortisol. In excess amounts, cortisol can break down skin collagen, the protein that keeps skin smooth and elastic.

Sleep loss also causes the body to release too little human growth hormone. When we’re young, human growth hormone promotes growth. As we age, it helps increase muscle mass, thicken skin, and strengthen bones.

“It’s during deep sleep -- what we call slow-wave sleep -- that growth hormone is released,” says sleep expert Phil Gehrman, PhD. “It seems to be part of normal tissue repair -- patching the wear and tear of the day.”

7. Sleepiness Makes You Forgetful

8. Losing Sleep Can Make You Gain Weight

When it comes to body weight, it may be that if you snooze, you lose. Lack of sleep seems to be related to an increase in hunger and appetite, and possibly to obesity. According to a 2004 study, people who sleep less than six hours a day were almost 30 percent more likely to becomeobese than those who slept seven to nine hours.

Recent research has focused on the link between sleep and the peptides that regulate appetite. “Ghrelin stimulates hunger and leptinsignals satiety to the brain and suppresses appetite,” says Siebern. “Shortened sleep time is associated with decreases in leptin and elevations in ghrelin.”

Not only does sleep loss appear to stimulate appetite. It also stimulates cravings for high-fat, high-carbohydrate foods. Ongoing studies are considering whether adequate sleep should be a standard part ofweight loss programs.

9. Lack of Sleep May Increase Risk of Death

In the “Whitehall II Study,” British researchers looked at how sleep patterns affected the mortality of more than 10,000 British civil servants over two decades. The results, published in 2007, showed that those who had cut their sleep from seven to five hours or fewer a night nearly doubled their risk of death from all causes. In particular, lack of sleep doubled the risk of death from cardiovascular disease.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST FOR THE OP

10. Sleep Loss Impairs Judgment, Especially About Sleep

Lack of sleep can affect our interpretation of events. This hurts our ability to make sound judgments because we may not assess situations accurately and act on them wisely.

Sleep-deprived people seem to be especially prone to poor judgment when it comes to assessing what lack of sleep is doing to them
. In our increasingly fast-paced world, functioning on less sleep has become a kind of badge of honor. But sleep specialists say if you think you’re doing fine on less sleep, you’re probably wrong. And if you work in a profession where it’s important to be able to judge your level of functioning, this can be a big problem.

“Studies show that over time, people who are getting six hours of sleep, instead of seven or eight, begin to feel that they’ve adapted to that sleep deprivation -- they’ve gotten used to it,” Gehrman says. “But if you look at how they actually do on tests of mental alertness and performance, they continue to go downhill. So there’s a point in sleep deprivation when we lose touch with how impaired we are.”

and let me add Kareem from the lakers has said many times the reason he was able to play so long at such a high level was not his martial arts, was not his meditation, it was SLEEP. He said he found out after a few years of nba play that sleeping properly 8 hours if you can... will help you recover from the wear and tear on your body and obviously refresh your mind.

so for you that love to sleep less than 6 per. here's a tip. you need to get your sleep in some how. a nap counts.

Catching a Brief Nap Might Be Good for Your Health

Except that it does:

14 Highly Successful People Who Prioritize A Good Night's Sleep

Anyone can find a small number of people to try and "prove" their viewpoint (you didn't prove anything by the way). But the many scientific studies have proven that 7-8 hours is optimal for sleep. And in reference to the study you linked, that gene is rare among the human population, i.e. not every person has it. So applying a genetic mutation to the population as a whole is nonsense.

Yeah, sleep on the power of sleep and you will end up sleeping forever when you throw yourself in the bushes sleeping behind the wheel.

Science cannot make a scientific law for the above

Simply because of variation of biological organisms. Scientific laws are usually made about natural occurrences. Sleep is not a natural occurrence in the sense of gravity being a natural occurrence of nature.

because we know very little about how our brain functions

We know a lot more about the brain today, but there is still much that needs to be known.

the realm for which our sub conscious derives from

The "realm" which our subconscious derives from is the physical plane, i.e. the Universe and the collective life experiences you've had over your life time. From your fears to what you truly like is what makes that up.

the factuality of sleep and the body

Like before, not every person's body operate in the same manner, so it is dependent on the person's genetic make-up.

how the brain applies frequency energy levels to mental concentration.
