I didn’t say it wassnt an art form. I said it wasn’t a requirement.
You can’t say Biggie is better than Ross because he told focused stories on a few tracks

Ross ain't never made no classic albums like RTD and LAD.
Can't quote no Ross songs like Juicy, The What, Warning, Big Poppa, One More Chance, Hypnotize, Kick In The Door, 10 Crack Commandments, Mo Money.... etc
Ross ain't got a memorable voice like Biggie; he ain't got the vivid story telling skills BIG had and the unbelievable rhymes and impeccable flow and delivery BIG had.
I couldn't name 1 of Triple C's songs but everybody and they mama know Junior Mafia's Get Money, Player's Anthem OG and remix. Those songs are classics.
Biggie put Kim in the game, wrote for her and helped her to go on and be 1 of the most influential females in all of hip hop. bytches still riding Kim's bra straps.
And I know LAD was looked at as a "glossy" and "commercial" back in 97', but that album is an album that cats like Ross still try to make to this day.
LAD set the blueprint for cats like Ross that still to this day ain't been able to do what Biggie did on that album.
RTD was more grimy and gritty, had that dusty like feel to it (aside from Big Poppa). Timeless music.
Both RTD and LAD are classic albums.

Sure I can, because storytelling rapping is still rapping. It's rapping with flow and lyrics and the added bonus of telling a well-crafted narrative. That takes skill. You sound like a little kid playing with his friends who gets pissed when the other kid pulls out an imaginary flamethrower. "No, counting that talent of Biggie doesn't count! THAT'S NOT FAIR! YOU CAN'T USE ALL OF BIGGIE'S TALENTS!"
And nothing in rap is a requirement, really...as evidenced by how garbage some dudes are. But if you can spit a dope story you're gonna get props for it (just like if you can do anything well).

Lyrically biggie will always have the edge over ross because he's the foundation of a elite emcee the voice, presence, delivery, story telling, technique, believability & ability to craft a song
Ross has iconic & legendary verses & songs but it seems you'll dont give him props for his beautifully crafted albums & the nostalgia those albums will have yrs & yrs from now
I actually think deeper than rap will end up like reasonable doubt & become a classic over time
And teflon don will in time be seen as a impactful & cultural album from the iconic trap joints, to iconic songs like tears of joy, free mason, MM3 & just the excellent production
And you can't tell me he wasn't rapping his ass off on there
And rich forever is just a classic that shyt was everywhere when it hit the streets closes thing to tm 101 in terms of street acclaim

Biggie is the Penny Hardaway/Grant Hill of rap.
Tupac was special and he deserves the icon status but, Biggie was just a rapper.
Also, Pac gave us tens of albums whereas Biggie gave us two and some change.

It was an obvious fall off but sold the same (plat) as "Capital Punishment" and got the same Mics in The Source (4) as that album.

It was a huge dip in quality compared to the first one. The reviews of that album in real time reflect that as I'm sure you're aware of. LAD was a step up in quality even though there were more commercial tracks than RTD. Death never elevated Pun's second album into being called a classic & ATG album. Doesn't matter what it sold either
