Play a map enough times and you will get a general idea of which areas are gonna be hot/cold

When you're good you throw grenades into hotspots where you imagine a player might be. I always do that. Hell, splash damage from the grenade can be a big help.

Won't lie and act like every grenade I toss is planned and I know where people are...but I have a limited amount of them...so I'm going to use them accordingly. If you sit in areas everyone else sits, you're gonna catch this splash damage.
