If you were a new artist, with no money, would you sign this contract?

Indie

And that more so is due to mentality. If I ever wanted to be a rapper in any point in life, the idea of signing to a label would honestly never cross my mind.

However, if you’re from a major market, and def jam is down the street? Or Interscope is down the street? Your mentality may be completely different.

A lot of expenses are being overblown imo
Travel and food costs arent that high for local/regional shows. You dont need a huge tour bus for these kinda shows.

You can rent jewelry if you need to stunt for press photos, same goes for cars.

Taxes and mgmt costs are the highest expense imo

You dont need a fancy studio anymore. You can rent one with a solid engineer for $40 to $50/he in most cities. There are radio hits recorded on laptops all the time
And you go through all this just to be called fake :pachaha: how much is it to rent a Rolex or Audemar, or a 911 GT or Ferrari? A chunk of the 2500 is still getting blown.

Songs are recorded in $40 studios and laptops but where are they optimized and mixed?

All this is why I and so many brehs didn't get far, too much outside of music and can't afford to get the sound quality that makes and breaks records. I wouldn't sign this deal but cats making a certain type of music it's easy to see how this hooks them in.

Recording isn't the problem. Some noise canceling pads and a mic and you're set. Mixing is the key. Literally make or breaking a record.

You can get quality mixing/mastering for $100/song and even cheaper
It's not the 90s....theres a hundreds of full sail grads that need work. shyt doesnt cost that much

I know a guy who mastered all killa no filla by Freddie gibbs who will do mastering for 50 a song.....he has a legit portfolio of work too....not some shadetree dude

Not all rappers need to floss to get ahead. Even if that's your image...renting this shyt isnt a G.

I'm assuming one has at least part time.gig besides show money

It's all doable, dudes love to try poke holes in.everything....damn

Is that why 99% of artists fail talent or not? Who is the last rapper to blow without flossing or pouring thousands into the music who stayed indie?

Of course. I was commenting on breh I quoted talking about studio costs. Half these nikkas sound like they don't spend anything on mixing and mastering, either smh.

Who do you think of those people, were in the situation in the OP, and it worked for them? I don't know these people's contract status, but I see several names that were popping ahead of time, already had careers, etc. Who has Atlantic made a millionaire, that wasn't already popping?
Most of them had a regional buzz and then got signed typical.

Matter of fact, find me an artist that was Indie, had major success and stayed Indie. Or a popular Indie artist that was Indie their entire career, that's had major placements.

If you want to have any type of moderate lifestyle, you need a major. You will never see the type of checks you want without one.

I'm taking that deal 100%

Do you know how many rappers with a slight buzz never develop?

Dude on the first page saying 3 shows a night is clown shyt. No way you're getting 3 shows a week consistently. Plus paying 2-5 people coming on the road plus travel expenses

Take the deal, save a couple million, put it in index funds and use your connections to get a job as an A&R at a label earning a decent salary

Depends on your crowd. If you have only kids listening why waste money when all your tracks are going to blast through some 15$ dollars headphones? :russ:

Grown folks with cars and speakers in their house now...that's another story.
