You can’t turn it off. But it is voluntary.

then anytime i'm bored (so all the time haha) i'd pause time and fill out people's social networks through their memories, eventually i'll get to almost everyone on earth. i guess if you're a hermit and everyone that's ever remembered you has died this method wouldn't work tho.
