Wait… how is this bad?
If a child didn’t know they have COVID and they get tested positive for COVID doesn’t that just make sense?
This.
It's also an indication of community spread.

For Covid positive, sure. Not for a COVID hospitalization. That’s what they are doing. Making it seem like X amount of people are being hospitalized due to COVID. This isn’t just for kids, they have been doing it since the start for adults as well.If a child tests positive for COVID then it should counted.
It should be counted in the case counts but NOT for the hospitalized case counts.
So they can bill you or your insurance for a covid test.
To be fair, epidemiologists have additional criteria for determining if someone was hospitalized with covid. They look at Chart abstractions and the medical care they received to determine a true true covid hospitalization.

why? because you're in a hospital during an infections outbreak... if you noticed they mentioned some kids got covid WHILE they are in hospital for something else.I mean was the child showing symptoms? Why would you do a covid test for a broken leg? Basically it seems like they are trying to increase the number of cases on purpose any way they can.
Really crazy this needed to be stated. The reason they test everyone for covid who goes into hospital is to help prevent nosocomial (hospital acquired) infection. A preson who has a covid infection is not treated next to people who are negative, usually they have different wards, more PPE required by staff etc. So for everyone who goes into hospital you need to know where to put them. Otherwise you will have even more people catching the disease whilst awaiting/getting tratment for something else.

this is why hospitals have quarantined wings but reception areas/centres are where you get got.
people are so stuck on trying to unearth conspiracies that they are doing endless spins of the information presented.
truth is hospital workers are tired and overworked currently, might be prone to make mistakes including in how they are counting cases. people draw from this information what they want. if someone shows up to the hospital with something else and get covid there should they not be counted? if they are also there for another reason but asymptomatic and have covid should they not get tested?
there's not incentive to increase numbers and who is they? nurses, doctors, media? do they get bonuses based on case counts?
i never hear anyone break down who this infamous they it's just the easiest way to act like everything is by design without explanation. "they" is open to interpretation and could be anyone from a nurse to the cdc and apparently "they" all have the same goal.
that's nonsense. I'd imagine if I worked in health care right now i'd hate the general public.

You're missing the point @Amestafuu (Emeritus)
A child can go into a hospital, with a major bleeding after a bad fall, and for arguments sake upon arriving, they are tested for covid, and it is positive.
That is counted as a covid hospitalization stay instead of the child being in the hospital for head bleeding.
shouldn't be counted as a hospitalization for covid but will be counted as a positive infection regardless. doesn't really change much. they report both hospitalizations and positive cases. my city is locked down because of the amount of positive cases. the hospitalization from omicron has not been major. Not that if shouldn't be counted, but it shouldn't be counted as a hospitalization for covid.
