As far as I know your just selling the song, but it'd help to know other things like how best to sing the song, when you pick up the pitch or shyt like that.

So you need the words and the vocal tone and delivery, the label and the artist producers can sort out the backing instruments.

I got a couple gem's, on some motown sh1t ........ but no background music, just sung words.

Imma look into it, wondering how you start ....... probably just call labels up but there must be a 100 people every other day calling up labels.

You better start networking. I got a book on songwriting, maybe if you think you got some good shyt like that try calling up some studios or getting in contact with producers and engineers. Or if you really really think you got something, try to find somebody to sing the shyt for you, if you really really really got some nuts tho you'd teach yourself how to sing, play an instrument, and get 100% of the profits. :youngsabo:

I mean you can go to BlazeTrak.com and submit ur songs to mainstream producers/A&'R, etc.....but you have to pay like $100 or more. But you get a response back.

My advice to you is, you can do that, but 9/10 their gonna tell you that you need music/instrumentals. And then they're gonna tell you to re-submit it again when you get music. You do get some valuable feedback but at the same time remember that they want you to keep submitting so they can get more $$$.

I got a response back once from a well known producer/writer who said that your stuff needs to sound professionally done, track, vocals and all b/c he said labels now dont want to spend money/time re-doing songs....they want it radio-ready.

Country music is probably the only genre where you can just submit a song with minimal production and they'll reproduce it w/ live instruments if they like it. But country music is based around guitar/ basic piano anyway, so there's not alot of synths, arpreggiators, 808 drums that need to be reproduced. Session musicians can knock a country song out in 20-30 mins.

But to answer ur orig question, song writing can consist of you creating the music, or just the lyrics alone.

But listen to this:

writing a song generally means arranging the music and lyrics together.

you have lyrics, or maybe a chorus. that's not a song breh

I thought so too, but like the 2quick4hoes said you can just get someone to help you rock it acapella or you sing it for them.

I just think in 2012 its not even about the songs anymore more beats and choruses, ..... I got them Adele / Norah Jones type joints but i dont know how to convey that to A&Rs/labels/artist

Imma just hope i run into some artist or label reps :wow:

running into an artist or rep will mean you either get mocked or stolen from

complete it yourself, or with someone who can and copyright it together to get co-writing credits. then shop. easier said than done, etc.

No. As a song writer, you sell the music and lyrics. No one just buys the lyrics. The record producers would hire a composer to provide the background instrument stuff. They can change a song to be country, rock, jazz, rap, house, etc.

Their song is copyrighted and they sell it. They sell their song to someone who wants it. If the song tanks, well, it is their loss. If it goes off the charts, you don't make any more than you agreed for up front. But if you put into the contract that you get royalties, then you start making bank.
