What do you do?

On one hand, you're at A&M(for the 2nd time) right now....so you know the area, know the program, you know what's expected. You've recruited in the state of Texas for past decade or so and probably have Houston area high schools on speed dial, and Dallas to a lesser degree. You can convince kids to come play in the SEC w/o having to leave the state. You're the hot new team on the block in college football.

Other the other hand....it's the SEC. You can field a good team and still have 4-5 losses, potentially. You're still recruiting against LSU, Bama, etc and regionally to Arkansas and of course out of conf to UT.

And :comeon:...... the elephant in the room.....Johnny Manziel. You're NEVER going to have another him. Your defense is swiss cheese and Manziel has the ability to move the ball down the field like no other QB right now and has kept you in games other QB's would've lost. A&M probably has 4 losses right now if not for Manziel.

--

Then you have USC. USC is USC. The expectations after the Pete Carroll era are going to be national title contention. But you're still gonna have to deal with scholly restrictions for the time being, while recruiting now against a surging Stanford, re-awakened UCLA and of course Oregon. USC recruits itself on some level, but now you're in an area where you have probably have very few connections.

You have higher(maybe unrealistic) expectations at USC and maybe a shorter leash to get it done. But the upside should you succeed at a place like USC is obviously tremendous.

What do you do....stay or go?

Sumlin's name has been gaining steam in the past couple of offseasons within NFL circles. A conference championship at A&M (easier said than done, I know), probably opens up an NFL door for him, and if he jumped to the Pac-10, would he be closer to a conference title & national championship game appearance (and consequently, his key to the NFL) having to tangle with UCLA, Stanford (and especially having to match wits Shaw, another young coach the NFL is said to covet), and Oregon? I'm sure he'll be smart and choose the route that takes him closer to the NFL faster, but you've raised an excellent point in your exploration of this conundrum for Coach Sumlin.

I'm going to USC. USC will phase UCLA out. Stanford's academics kids phase them out of some of the pure athletes. All you gotta do is compete with Oregon.
He can recruit those Texas kids to come to LA.
"You wanna play for Mack Brown? He's :flabbynsick: and doesn't develop his recruits. You wanna play for Stoops? He's on thin ice. You wanna play at TxAM let me tell you why I left and what goes on there"
"Now let me tell you what I did I took a garbage A&M team and made them SEC contenders. I took a small wild chaotic kid and made him a Heisman trophy winner. What you think Im gonna do with all this A list talent at USC we winnin ships I know you wanna be a part if that:myman: "
Sumlin would be good at USC

If I'm him, I'm gone. Not for selfish Auburn-related reasons either. I seriously think he could bring USC back to prominence. It's a top 5 job IMO. How many years of probation do they have left?

LMAO, I just dont him bringing in that trash defense after all the progress we've made

That SEC defense! Have 50 dropped on you an no one bats an eye :troll:

But for real, if Sumlin agrees to keep some of our Defense personnel and Coach O, I'd love to have him.

I know we lovin Coach O right now, but I think he's just getting out of the way and letting out talent play. But I know if Coach Pete was still here we woulda came out and dropped 30 in that second half against ND. Not saying Sumlin is Pete, but I'm not sure O is the answer.

USC vs Texas A&M... USC no doubt.

USC vs Texas ... If you trying to win easy, Texas. That would be messy given his Texas A&M stop. They may not want to hire the coach of their perceived little brother school. Keep in mind, Texas didn't have scholarship room for Manziel and Mack Brown wouldn't call Jameis Winston who wanted to go there. The head coach at Texas basically selects his team every year. No real recruiting. This is why Mack Brown is trash.

Offense has looked much better since that ND game, which was a sloppy weather game too. No excuses tho
