Haven't watched the video but I will say Nas aint no phony.....Nas put himself on the line an almost commited career suicide by exposing Hot 97 in 2002. NY Rappers who want healthy careers dont do that. Cant co sign Nas being phony when he did something u never see rappers do.

She gave him props and she wasnt really dissing the fanbase, she just said she had a perception of his fanbase being purists and wondering how they'd react to her and realized some of the things they say online about acts like her arent what he feels.
This has been known.
And lets be perfectly honest: Considering she probably only got into hip hop like 3 or 4 years ago thats probably the perception she has of them back off just the net. Its like if you just get into rap and see these purists that's probably skew your perception just as much. In reality, the best thing you can do is just try to absorb as much music and the history and you'll find and understand why people some way about it even they themselves are being a little unfair to less pure hip hop acts like that.

Nas has always given commercial artist even gimmicky ones props if he liked their records. He's never been always pro-Hip Hop (even when he was saying that during Stillmatic). He's just like anyone else who likes different artists regardless. Even during the Hip Hop is Dead promo rounds he tried to make that clear but that dont grab headlines and attention of skimming.
Its like during Hip Hop is Dead, he said he felt a lot of the underground and street rappers needed to be pushed more and things were stagnant but at the same time he could appreciate a club and dance record like Soulja Boy's because even in his days they were poppy dance records (Which he gave props to on that very same album)
