The truth of the matter is, throughout history, among all patriarchal societies, men would create stronger emotional platonic bonds with other men, and used women solely for sexual intimacy.
It’s only the modern western man that has pressure to create strong emotional bonds with the women that they are in a sexual relationship with. You now get a lot of “my best friend is my wife/girlfriend” type of guys when that is not the norm for most male dominated societies.
What happens with this mindset is that men tend to neglect nurturing strong male friendships and end up having fewer and fewer close male friends as they age.
Some research has been done on this and they cite the rise of homophobia in the mid 19th century and the rise of feminism which sought to make women equal to men. When women are equal to men, they expect the emotional bonds/friendship energy that was traditionally given to male friendships, to be given to them.
