Lolthere is a thread strictly about Illmatic being overrated everyday.
an album that sold 59,000 in its first week gets new threads on the daily almost 20 years after it released...
.... and the why the O.P. praising NWA's basic ass rhymes all over straight outta Compton but look at NY State of Mind like "meh... nothing special"
Even if you ignore all the multis and what not, Illmatic is still one of the best sounding albums. Anyone who disagrees needs to get their ears checked. I can kind of understand people saying that lyrically it's not necessarily as impressive as it seems, but that doesn't change the fact that it's a great album. I can even understand if people think it's overrated and not a top album, but it's still a great album none the less. Plus if lyrics were all that mattered, more people would care about Canibus (who frankly doesn't make good sounding music despite his lyrical talent).
Straight Outta Compton is in no way sonically better than Illmatic, how is production rough all the beats on there still sound crisp today which can't be said about many albums from the early 90s. NY State of Mind is just an epic beat, One Love is one of the most beautiful beats ever that xylophone is hypnotic, peep the scratching by Premo and the jazz in beats such as The World is Yours and Life's a bytch.
THAT IS WHY WHEN A NEW ALBUM COMES OUT ALL CRITICS CHECK IF IT'S THE NEW REASONABLE DOUBT, OH SORRY, I MEANT ILLMATIC.........ILLMATIC WAS LIFE CHANGING TO ME SO,....Illmatic is overrated as hell. Production is good and sounds ruff in some areas. Most of the songs sound the same, and his lyricism is all over the place (and not in a good way)
this isn’t a topic saying it’s shyt, because I don’t feel that way about the album at all.
But for me personally it’s not even top10. That honour goes to It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back, or Straight Outta Compton. Everything about those two albums just stunned me, and made me think “wow!” when I first listened to them, from the lyrics, to the attitude, to the hard hitting beats. I love the jazzy sound on Illmatic and the way Nas tells stories about growing up in New York, but the stuff Public Enemy and N.W.A. did on those records was almost lifechanging for me and no other Hip-Hop albums have had the same impact on me personally.
I like nas as a rapper but illmatic is mad overated son....not a lot of standout tracks tbh
You still on the same account dog don't laugh at yourself.. i know shyt can get confusing
Man you're fukking op how can you live with yourself
Another illmatic hate thread by a camel stanLet this shyt flop
