You are trained to do product work...I'm trained to do engineering work.

The level and expertise of product work bar is lower than that of an engineer....especially one that is responsible for multiple systems and people

You do research and play as middle man to IT and the business

You dont know the complexities of what it take for engineering....this is why I tell you if something can be built or not....

That's the same reason why I could potentially bullshyt you and you would repeat that to business

:russ:

Continue to prove my point. There is no “training” to be a product person, the skills needed to be a GOOD Product person cant be taught, the same way knowing how to code doesnt make you a good developer.

Like I said not worth debating because those who see the bigger picture make it out of tactical dev roles :mjlol:

Product work is not a God given talent...our PM was an apprentice 3 years ago that went through a bootcamp....:mjlol:

She doing her thing now but she had to learn the ropes..just like the rest of them

Eh, you're patting yourself on the back right now. Just like devs, there's levels to product. I'm a former dev, Comp E degree, etc, and I'm a product guy now. It's different skillsets. You're downplaying the skill it takes to handle the PM role excellently.

A good experienced dev is a great addition to a team, but so is a PM.

PMS are necessary...I work with them everyday......there was a comment that devs "think" they are smart

Ain't no "think"....lead engineer and a PM are not on the same level

:dwillhuh: ayo sometimes i wonder if I chose the right major. Im only clearing 75k

I'm not going to act like there wasn't some luck in picking my major. My college was pushing it really hard at the time so I switched from Finance. Supply chain is hot right now (Amazon hits me up on LinkedIn at least 2x a year).

What's the difference between what OP does (I'm assuming IT/information technology/network administration) vs back end development? Aren't they one in the same? A back end development works with database but it sounds like he does more than that.
