The thing is that in my opinion "white" artists using/celebrating drugs exist as some form of accepted "rebellion" or "creative outlet", something that is def not the norm, that is more of a phase for white kids. Whereas imo "black" artists, especially in HH, have an influence that go far beyiong their art. HH in that way imo is not comparable to other forms of music : it's not just entertainment, it's a lifestyle. That's why it's so potent. I mean when we consider guys like say Jim Morrison or Kurt Cobain, of course some people were somewhat emulating their approach to life, but I don't think that the effect of their lifestyle was that big. I could be wrong though, but I do believe that HH has more influence on its listeners than any other genre, for better and for worse. Especially since White kids have other white people to look up to, in all walks of life, while for Black kids it might be less obvious and therefore will emulate those guys who "made it", especially if he's "keeping it real".
