I mostly like Zelda and Metroid series. The only Mario game I really liked was Super Maria Sunshine for the Game Cube. My childhood...
But this is mostly for the OP. If he is a big fan of first party Nintendo games then def get one, but he'll have to wait. But if not then avoid getting a Wii U at all cost.

Not just here. But in general. The same thing happened with the original Wii. People thinking it was going to have strong third party support. But the reason people got a Wii U to play Call of Duty and other "hardcore" games is because Nintendo promised that Wii U would be catered to the Hardcore audience but that wasn't the case. If anything its mostly catering to the hardcore Nintendo fans which isn't a bad thing.

But Nintendo is king of portable gaming. I would just play a 3DS for fun to just play Pokemon. I wouldnt buy won and play it in public for obvious reasons.
But I still bought my brother a Vita over the 3DS.
