How’s the language barrier? Assuming you aren’t fluent in the native tone

When you say you aren't fluent, what do you mean by that? Do you mean you know how to string a sentence together, or do you only know "konnichiwa" and "arigatou"?

Because you're GOING to need some level of fluency in Japan. This is one of the few places in the world where they could give a motherfukk about English, and almost no one speaks it to a workable degree. Hell, you might get people that literally (literally!) run away from you because they are that scared of trying to speak English to a native speaker.

So there is a barrier. But I've always said that Japanese is incredibly easy to learn for people that actually care to learn the language. Kanji (Chinese characters) is probably the most difficult part.

I would say that I'm around 75-80% fluent. In my vlogs, you can see and hear me speaking to Japanese people in Japanese. They didn't even TRY English with me and I'm clearly a Black man so they have no reason to believe that I can speak Japanese :mjlol:

Then we shelving talk about the women :mjlol:

They don't speak English breh. Like at all, and even if they did, they'd be too nervous to speak to a native speaker, so they wouldn't even entertain the conversation.

If you have ANY Japanese language ability, it's like fishing with dynamite.

That picture of the arcade was dope though. Anyone know a bit more about it? What kind of games? What is the pricing like? I think I see a coin slot... how many yen for a game?

Curious, what is the best way to learn the language to at least have a basic level when traveling to Japan.

Yes, my nikka :to:

I have never fallen in love with a place as immediately as I did when I was in Japan. I've travelled all over the world-- Japan is my favorite destination, bar none. The trains are LEGIT. The customer service is LEGIT. The food you order looks exactly like the picture AND is the business. Streets are immaculate (outside of Kabukicho, for various reasons) and that's because they don't have trashcans on the street, meaning everyone has to carry their trash with them. It's inbuilt into the culture.

Sprint is T-Mobile now, so I believe you have unlimited access out there. I had Verizon, and they said it would work, but it didn't, so I got pocket wi-fi.

I now have AT&T and it definitely works but it costs a grip :francis:

It's hard to say. I learned in college, so it was a natural progression for me.

I know they have these language programs like Rosetta Stone, but like anything, learning a language takes some time. I would say I was conversational after my first semester, but I was taking the language seriously, and smashing a few Japanese broads

I would say a realistic timeframe is about 2 semesters in a class. Speaking with actual Japanese speakers is INVALUABLE. There are some nuances in the pronunciation you won't get with these online programs, which tend to be inflexible.

Can you speak Japanese?
I know Japanese, but like a tiny sliver of it. Not enough to hold a conversation. I'm much better at Russian.

I have this medical condition where it's fairly easy for me to learn another language but only when a beautiful woman is teaching me. And I get rusty real fast. When my sexy spanish teacher in elementary school got replaced by a white dude that sounds like those voices on duolingo I went from being able to hold long conversations with mexicans to barely being able to do a basic greeting
