I don't know much about gun details tbh

which hand guns have the least chance of jamming, I heard revolvers

As others suggested, Glock 19 gen 5 or gen 4 (cheaper used). They’re pretty reliable and easy to maintain.

I would get that unc in-law to go ahead and take you to an indoor range where you can rent any model in the store.

From there it’s about finding the right fit (full, compact, sub-compact) for your hands and comfort.

Though they’re super reliable, Glocks WILL jam over time. The maintenance and cleaning is super simple though. It also helps you to familiarize yourself with its parts and functions. Practice clearing your weapon, making sure it’s clear, then disassembling

I'd hit the range and see what you like the most. You can't go wrong with a Glock 19. I got the S&W 2.0 Compact myself, liked it more but it all depends on what you like, everyone is different
