I'm not gonna weigh in on anything but the legality of your hypothetical.

First and formost, premeditating anything is bad, from a legal stance.
Intentionally misleading her is malicious. If you were to genuinely wish her to travel to see you then have a change of heart while her plane is in the air, that couldn't be helped though, and you'd be much better off legally.
It then becomes difficult to impossible for her to claim malice. If she can't claim malice, you are in much better shape.

Can she sue? Absolutely. But she can sue you right now for no reason whatsoever. Anyone can.
What you may have a problem with is if you make 'good faith promises' to her such as that she can stay with you. Without malicious intent there is no fraud or deception, simply hardship. So none of this is a criminal matter. A civil court cannot reasonably make you enforce these verbal contracts such as letting her stay with you, but a civil court might at least consider damages as a result of breach of those verbal contracts that result in a loss to her such as her having to pay to stay somewhere else.

Same with not picking her up.
If required, you want tp be able to show that you made an effort to pick her up... even if that effort falls terribly short and she's left stranded. Otherwise she can indicate you never intended to act in good faith and that takes this from "I had to spend money because of my bf's incompetence" to "my bf defrauded me" which is a big difference legally.

The worst thing you could do is send her the type of messages where she can show that you promised her A B and C and failed to deliver, especially if she can then prove you made no attempt to deliver.

Thats the legal side of it.
I'll leave the moral side of it to everyone else.

This is good advice. You can always just fall back.

I used to think I had done horrible things, and I'd use that as justification to do more horrible things... Until one day I did my first truly horible thing.
And I realized immediately that all those previous things had merely been terrible. And then I stopped altogether. But I could of stopped earliar... I just didn't realize that was an option.

Its always an option.
