I'm honestly annoyed with this whole "open world" wave

Every game doesn't need to be open world. In some ways I think open world games have less quality to their story and gameplay. More linear story driven games tend to have more polished gameplay and graphics and I hate the fact that it seems like devs are getting a little lazy and falling on open world to make things easier as far as making a story that moves along a certain way.

Games like last of us/uncharted/the old metal gear games etc....to me these are always more quality graphically and gameplay wise. I hope all thae devs don't turn everything into open world. The new metal gear looks nice but I was kind of nervous about it.

If last of us or uncharted went open world I'd actually be pissed.

I love open world games when they're done right, but I think linear games get it right more often.
Of course they do, its a limited focus which allows you to narrow down what really matters. Most of these open world games just fill their world with fluff, I know GTA gets all the praise in the world, but I've never been a fan of the series tbh.

I think Rockstar's best "open world" game is RDR.

Most open world games suck. The only open world games I think that nails it are obviously Rockstar games, Bethesda's Fallout/Skyrim titles and the odd WRPG like Mass Effect. Other games shoehorning in open world design irks me. I prefer they take the open-linear approach similar to TLOU where it's linear but it has open areas that can be explored.

NY all day..Da Stead & BK..
I been saying this shyt for years. I remember certain games getting criticized for being linear like Red Faction and im like wtf?..why the fukk does a Red Faction have to be open world?. I do like it if its done right but truth be told games like GTA get boring to me REAL fast. As a grown man I just dont have time for all that shyt anymore. Im enjoying The Witcher 3 but lets see how long that lasts..lol. even when I was younger I enjoyed story driven focused games more. MGS1 put it over the top for me.

To add to this, the reason why GTA V is an exception is Rockstar pays very big attention to the detail of their world. You hardly ever see the same stuff twice in GTA maps. I played GTA V on PS3 and on PC and I still see new places and detail from places I never saw before.

Surely this shouldn't come as a surprise to you :usure:

Not only that why every open world game has to have repeatitive side missions. Why not make side missions more engagin and extra on the narrative like the protaganist's history or an AI's or the antagonist's, etc.
