Don't know much about it but a dodge journey might be in your price range

2015 Journey | Dodge Mobile
i've been in the Journey, and i feel like if i'm gonna get an SUV without the 3rd row, i'm going for the Grand Cherokee. they seem to usually have great deals on it.

So, i was thinking...maybe i can bump it up to $350 a month. I did some math, and as long as i'm under or NO HIGHER than $600 total a month with full coverage insurance included, i'll be straight. Can i get that Durango/Traverse with leather now? :beli:

Thb no probably not. Any fully loaded leased suv is at min gonna be right around 400 with 2k down but I encourage u to shop it.

Just make sure u FULLY understand the terms of the lease especially if this is ur first time leasing. It's very different from buying. Understand the residual value etc.

Ur monthlys aren't the only important piece to a lease. The only way to truly find out if u didn't get ripped off/scammed is to understand the numbers behind it.

(Google image pic, but this is exactly what it is) 2015 Dodge Durango Limited, White, Blacktop....i named her Cruella...after Cruella De Vil :demonic:

So, we went on the company site and all before going to the dealer in NJ and saw the promotion for "$3K down, $249 a month"...and, of course, that's just to get you in the door since it's a national promotion. We get there saying that, and they're saying that we're not gonna be able to get this vehicle for even $325 a month with that money down, base model.

I don't mind a base model, but i was really hoping to get leather. We were there for a bit, test drove...but in the end walked out after a couple additional "sales managers" went over to talk to us. We knew they'd call back later. So, we went to Ford and saw that they had the 2016 Explorers out, but couldn't get the base joint for under $390 a month with $3K down. Felt a little smaller than the Durango anyway.

So, we went to Starbucks to take a break cuz it was a few hours later, and who calls? The Dodge folks. They're talking that base model with the leather at like $375 or whatever with $3K down...and i just say, "you know what...how about we just go to the next class up if i'm gonna pay that much?" Dude was like :ooh: and said he'd call back after "crunching the numbers". We talked about it internally and said, "fukk it, let's just go to the next class up and pay a lil more up front because we can still afford it". So, when he calls back we say we'll give $3,500 down for $375 a month for this Limited package....Deal.

Of course, since i drive in NY and i could take some bumps, i got the additional little insurance package to go with it that covers the rims, tires, nicks, dents, up to $6K in damage, etc. Original offer by the dude in the back was $20 a month, but got it down to $14 a month.

So, in the end, i walked out charging $3,875 to my JetBlue points card - $3,500 down, first month of $375. From the end of Sept. on, i'll be paying $389 a month, 3 years, 30K miles (i barely do 8K a year) and MSRP was $43,575.

How'd i do, gents? :sas1:

It was almost like a bait-and-switch. If they can't sell a car going by that national promotion, you could have shopped around to other Dodge dealers. They aren't the only ones. You could even have called around to every Dodge dealer in the NY/NJ area and see which internet salesman could meet you at that price. Worst case, you could even try to get that deal in Connecticut or upstate NY but you would have to take a hike to pick it up.

Well, you went from thinking $2000 down $300 a month at the start of this thread a couple of days ago. Then, you get lured into a $3,000 down, $249 a month advertisement. Then, you walk out with a $3,500, $389 a month deal. On paper, you are one of the worst negotiators ever. I don't know how else to put it. It's an okay deal considering the price of the SUV, but you didn't shop for an SUV at the price you originally wanted, which would have kept your total lease costs where you wanted it.
The salesmen won. On their return phone call, you should have played your game, not theirs. Tell them you are shopping around, if they are serious at making a deal, stay with base model with leather and counter-offered with $3,000 down and $290 a month. Then, tell them you got to go right now, and let them call you back with a counter offer. Then, hang up. That puts the ball in their court. You are off the phone. The ball is in their court to drop the sale. :sas1:

As someone whose leased a lot of vehicles on NY/NJ, you did OK. Not great but you didn't get raped either. Your original parameters were unrealistic and fact of the matter is that down included taxes, fees, registration and some cap cost reduction. You're paying under 400 a month for a pretty well equipped vehivle plus you got tire and rim insurance for what amounts to about 500 over the life of the lease. If you got a Ford Edge you'd be paying way more. It's just a lease and Dodges are great lease vehicles.

i get that, but at the same time, i might have been unrealistic with what i originally thought i could've gotten at that price anyway. besides, once i reevaluated and looked at what i could afford to pay monthly including insurance, this is only slightly going over the budget to be honest. i know people who pay $375 a month for base package Highlanders. this is a $43,575 car.

i wasn't going to settle for some joint like a Dodge Journey just to stay within my original, yet unrealistic, ideal pricing. i wanted one of these SUVs with the 3rd row that i originally posted, and would've had regrets getting anything less.

like the don, warren buffet, says - "it's better to get something great at a good price, than to get something good at a great price". :smugdraper:

Warren Buffett said "It's far better to buy a wonderful company at a fair price than a fair company at a wonderful price."
This is because he is looking at the future profit margins.
You are buying a car whose value is going to depreciate. That's completely different than what Warren Buffett was talking about. You took it out of context.

Mehh, I'm not buying the car anyway.

The context is the same in this instance IMO. The profit margin you mentioned = the class of vehicle I hoped to get. The money I originally wanted to spend when I started the thread = fair company at great price, and the money I spent & the vehicle I spent it on = great company at fair price.

I get you tho.

Congrats in getting a car you love. Only way for me to tell how u did tho is to give me the residual value from ur contract. That's how u judge if u got ripped or not.

Thanks dude. Contract says it'll be worth a little over $24,800 at the end of the 3yr lease...so it'll be at about 53% of the $43,575 MSRP. What do you think? :lupe:
