Read it for informational purposes, I'd say. The mythology of it is interesting sometimes though it tends to drag on, with lots of genealogy, poetry and boringness at parts. Of course, you could do what most christians do and learn the main tales (Abraham, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Salomon, Esther, etc) but it's useful to know the thing at length if you wanna debate theology at least. If you don't wanna debate theology, eh, can't see extensive reading being useful.

Old Testament = the eventful stuff, ancient history of the hebrews.

New Testament = bunch of Jesus talk, plus the apostles yapping. I usually can't stand the apostles yapping so I didn't read the New Testament.

For a start you can look into the book of Proverbs, many jewels in there. You can hit Ecclessiates too, its a book on the discourse of the meaning of life and the vanities in it, even something @Napoleon can appreciate, cant you breh?

If not for religion, but for the art of courage there are the Psalms. Standouts are Psalm 91, Psalm 46, and the widely known Psalm 23.

If you're comfortable with Shakespearean I strongly recommend the King James Version. The eloquence and power in the speech especially in the Psalms is :ohlawd:

Biases aside, anybody interested in spoken word or the literary arts, look at the structure of Psalm 46:
God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.

There is a river, the streams whereof shall make glad the city of God, the holy place of the tabernacles of the most High.

God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.

The heathen raged, the kingdoms were moved: he uttered his voice, the earth melted.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

Come, behold the works of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth.

He maketh wars to cease unto the end of the earth; he breaketh the bow, and cutteth the spear in sunder; he burneth the chariot in the fire.

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah
