That's what I don't understand. Even from an ad revenue standpoint it would make sense to do the bare minimum to continue to drive traffic to the site: Open registration every once in a while, having someone who can help posters who are locked out, etc. Otherwise, why not sell the site to someone who is interested in maintaining it?
