Last.fm Outlines Key Changes, No More Free Radio in the Desktop Client | Maximum PC

"Significant changes are headed to Last.fm, depending on where you live. Effective January 15, 2013, the Last.fm desktop client will no longer stream free radio in the United States, United Kingdom, and Germany. You'll still be able to listen to ad-supported free radio, but it will have to be done in a browser; only subscribers will be able to stream through the desktop client."

 It's been a cool 6 years but I'm out.

I only use it to keep track of my play counts, but I fear that they probably might be closing down altogether before long. This is all because the media companies are so greedy with the licensing fees...

They dropped the ball and let a few companies rush through like spotify. While spotify are making moves with facebook n them last.fm has less and less presence by the day. They need someone to buy them because the market for cloud music is just going to get more crowded. Dropbox will be in the game soon too. With google music, apple, etc, they need a miracle to regain the relevance they once had.

I only use it to track my music listening habits.

Kind of a shame too, I love using Last for music as a whole, it's introduced me to so many good artist over the years. I currently use the desktop client, but I'll go back to streaming from my phone. I pay the $6 a year or whatever to do that, it's worth it to me.
