So when they get called out, they can play dumb and say,



"What are you talking about? I didn't do anything."

Then they play victim, and the other whites comfort them, and call us angry. It happened to me all the time when I was younger until I realized what was going on.

There was an episode of the COWS where the host and callers discussed white people clearing their throats around black people. I can't remember which of the very many episodes it was unfortunately. They do it to draw attention to themselves in a very passive aggressive way and effectively announce "I am here, I'm white, acknowledge me".

I'm not sure about out and out coughing though.

Other creatures like insects in nature give off or expell a gas when a threat in the environment is perceived.

Also humans do certain behaviors to self sooth in uncomfortable situations such as rub them selves if sitting may bounce there leg up and down rub there hands , cough etc.

Black peoples presence in certain environments make white people uncomfortable.

Also there is a study that shows white people's stress levels go up the same rate as when they see a snake as when the see a black person.

I say "preciate it" and walk through.

On one hand it's another human being thoughtful to another human being, but race is always in the mix in these streets. I feel like it's a way of addressing you as the representative of your race, that he as the representative of his race is not racist...or is at least decent enough to hold the door for you. Preferably I'd rather a man not hold the door for me, for me to go through, unless I have something in both hands, keep it moving . Holding the door just for me to catch it before it closes is fine.
