it used to be hard to find wack shyt
now its hard to find good shyt
it used to be cChristmaswith listening to new shyt ... like
"and this? .... oh shyt and THIS! WHAT THIS TOO ... oh Detroit shyt!?! damn Alabama's got shyt like THIS... "
everywhere you turn was dope shyt

now its like ...
Detroit VS everybody .... meh ... these cats are all average open mic dude
or someone defending some shyt like " nah thats his lane though, wiz khalifia isnt supposed to make the songs you're talking about"

all the holding hands and giving people a pass opened the game up for american idol tryouts on the main stage
nikkas like jon b would be megastar status in this time period

you need to actually listen to them albums the coli be sleeping on tho. you know those album threads that get 1 or 2 replies? thats the good shyt.

I've been feeling like this since late 06, but :russ: at you saying for 20 years FOH nikka

after pac and biggie passed, the whole movement of hip hop ain't feel the same to me. this ain't to say there won't some great albums that came out after that period because there were but the movement changed and the majority of the quality of the music went downhill to me

it ain't got that same excitement it once had. for me, listenin' to it now has became almost like a chore just to find somethin' new and even when i do find somethin' new and kinda of cool, it only sticks to me for like a minute. it ain't got no "stayin' power" as barry white use to say. hip hop is stale and played now (has been for close to 20 years) but it's now to the point where it's just flat out a parody of what it once was :camby:

so you tryin to say the glamorization of senseless violence and doing drugs and being a rich baller who sells ki's and kills other black men and having endless amounts of ferraris and objectified females isn't for you???? sell out muthafukka, knew you was never bout that life

The booth is a weird place.
First y'all moan about gangster rappers who rap about excess
then y'all turn around and shyt on the every man/backpack rapper
and y'all definitely won't touch anything that sounds to different,
otherwise it's just labeled as "weird".

This is place is confounding, it's like half of y'all don't realize that Hip Hop
exists outside of Gangster rap and if you do you don't even wanna hear it because
you'd rather go big up some indie rock band. Mainly because in the booth
Indie Hip hop isn't a "thing", which sucks because the places where indie
Hip Hop IS a "thing" have a very :mjpls: kinda vibe, so I generally avoid em.
But who's gonna shovel through the litany of terrible rappers just find a couple of gems?
Real Heads :ld:

you need to actually listen to them albums the coli be sleeping on tho. you know those album threads that get 1 or 2 replies? thats the good shyt.

That's the booth's M.O. though, they'll ignore whole albums then ask
"What good music dropped this year ?", it's a self fulfilling prophecy.

I stop listening to hip-hop for stretches, but always come back. It's good to broaden your horizons.

Don't mind me, though. I was around when all you heard on the radio was stuff like this.......

Songs take me back to when I was in Kindergarten/Pre-school........:old:

I'm older than hip-hop.

Hip Hop for me is better than it has ever been. This year has been a little slow but I thought 2010 through 2013 were great. It may be hard for some people to get into, but once I found the UK rap and grime scenes I have not looked back. You never know what else is out there until you give something a chance. There are rappers in other countries that are leagues better than some of the top American rappers. A few years ago I would of heard Young Thug's voice and immediately changed the channel like this is some whack shyt. But now that I don't only care about lyrics and now that I don't need a song to sound like some generic 90's New York lyricist to enjoy it, I like Party Rap songs now. I like Drill, Trap, even Horrorcore at times. A lot of rappers and rap fans are stuck in the 80's and can't seem to enjoy anything that doesn't have one specific sound or isn't about delivering the hardest bars, and thats a shame because you miss out on a lot of good music.

I don't see how a black man who grew up listening to hip hop can be done? Naw son...this shyt is for life..trying to pretend like you really dig other genres more is faking the funk..

I'm Jamaican so I always got reggae/dancehall music.

Hip hop has been getting corny to me for a while. I just chalked it up to me getting old :flabbynsick:

2014 been a little weak, but 2010-2013 ain't been bad I believe classics dropped in that timespan and in the future we'll be looking back favorably at that era. It's always like this in hip hop at the moment people shyt on what's coming out and in years they look back at things favorably. Hell, Common dropped I Used To Love H.E.R. in 1994 one of the greatest years in hip hop history.

I always find a way to get dope music, and I always find something I enjoy. In 2014 I've enjoyed several releases.

Freddie Gibbs Piñata is a dope album it's like Only Built 4 Cuban Linx meets Madvillainy it's not as good as either of those albums but it's still an extremely cohesive dope album. Great chemistry between Madlib and Gibbs, Gibbs is just a dope spitter and borrows styles from so many MC's from UGK, to Nas, to Pac.

The veterans have dropped dope projects Mobb Deep, Trag, Havoc's solo, Mega, Common really the one I want to talk about is Onyx Wakedafucup. This is arguably their best album, Snowgoons modernized that hardcore sound and they dropped a dope album in 2014 over 20 years after Slam.

YG's album was dope too, he's not a great lyricist or anything but he dropped a dope summer album. Album has a little bit of everything in terms of sound elements of ATL trap, Bay hyphy, LA G-Funk. It's cohesive, the skits, the storytelling not a bad album at all.

If you can't find dope music it's on you

There's all lanes you want drugs raps you got Migos and Rozay go listen to God Forgives I Don't or Young Rich Nikkas

You an old school boom bap purist go listen to Joey BADA$$'s 1999 or Roc Marciano's Reloaded

Into storytelling and more conscious raps? You've got Kendrick and Good Kid, M.a.a.d. City. This year CyHi Tha Prynce dropped one of the doper pro-black projects in Black Hystori Project.

Into braggadacious, introspective shyt something for the bytches too you got Drizzy's Take Care

You like getting high? Go listen to A$AP's Live.Love. A$AP anything by Spitta I suggest Covert Coup

You want some relatable shyt you an average joe, J.Cole is your man he about to drop an album

I didn't even get to My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy or Life is Good, Banks and Fab have. dropped some dope mixtapes.

Hip hop itself is just not growing,it cant keep up with its fans who are maturing and getting older whereas hip hop has remained inane lifeless and just redundant and stagnant..
