I watch the BET Awards and Hip Hop Awards and realized just how much our culture had fallen.

The problem with hip hop is guys get older but rappers keep doing the same shyt. Same topics, same flows, same beats. It's all repetitive. In other genres, people grow as artists, and get more experimental. As rappers grow old they just get irrelevant.

I think you just need to take a break. I felt that way about hip-hop in the early 2000s but you know what there is enough piff for every body. Lots of veterans are still dropping heat. Like Cormega, Inpecta Deck, Souls of Mischief, Onyx etc. And there is a great diversity to the sounds today with the Likes of Odd Future, Kendrick Lamar, Rick Ross (at times), Ab-Soul and whatnot. I think you need to to the past dig in the crates and find other genres of music to get into and sort of balance out your ear for music. Then come back with a fresh pair of ears. You still love H.E.R. you just need a trial separation.

that's thing man, i'm always listenin' to other genres. in a couple of hours i could go from bumpin' fleetwood mac in the whip to rakim to pearl jam to lionel richie etc

hip hop has just run it's course for me; because of the lack of findin' a lo of new hip hop music that really sticks to my taste buds, i've listened to the old classics so much that i'm now tired of them :yeshrug:

The problem is that these two bands make really adventurous music; something not found in rap. You should listen to Parliament/Funkadelic.

I feel the same way OP. I'm over Hip Hop too. I've been listening to Hip Hop oldies and other stuff lately. Since I started listening to Jazz (I love Miles Davis), and found that I like it much more than I thought I would, rap sounds immature and lame to me now. Rediscovering older black genres has been exciting and as crazy as it sounds it has been good for my mood too.

I wish...i'd be happy as hell if I could get the same beats!

And fucc experiments...do WTF got you here!

My favorite new album this year was that MJG album. Yeah, he was talmbat pimp chit like he always does, but
he did the beats, sang (found out he has a decent singing voice), and found a new way to say things we'd expect
him to say. That's "growth" to me.

I don't mind an artist "growing", but that doesn't mean to abandon the good chit you used to do.

Hip-Hop is trash right now,

The apologist and excuse makers on this site want me to dig through 1000 WACK rappers to find ONE ABOVE AVERAGE rapper:rudy:

NAH

You can love hip-hop and still call it out on it's bullshyt, as a matter of fact by not supporting the vast majority of this bullshyt I feel like I'm doing whats best for the culture.

ALSO the majority of rappers yall big up as alternatives to listen to when convos like this come up are usually AVERAGE and NOTHING SPECIAL.

VERY FEW GREAT RAPPERS OR PROJECTS HAVE DEBUT WITHIN THE LAST COUPLE YEARS.

Hip-hop is stale.

what i copied in bold print is a very underrated reply and what many people fail to realize. great reply @Goat poster :salute:
