I want to do something for the youth, whether its a boys and girls club, mentoring or tutoring program. :salute:

I think I'd do it every weekend in my hometown (Philly) :youngsabo:

I know many are after-school programs, so it may be hard but I'm sure I could find something to do on weekends. :takedat:

Might meet some bad bytches too :leon:

Did anyone here ever do volunteer work? experiences? tips?

Although I'm not religious, I do volunteer at a church in my old neighborhood. I work with child molestation/rape victims and feed the homeless :manny:

Ive been doing this since I was a senior in High School and it has really changed my outlook on life in a lot of things.

Thats dope. And admirable

I think Id feel good being able to at least help change one kid's life.

Thanx :king:

Trust me, you're going to love the feeling knowing that u helped at least one human being. I felt sooooo happy after talking to these victims and the homeless. It was sad because majority of the homeless was families...lost their jobs and didnt have no where to go (not even a shelter :snoop:) yet they were some of the most happiest people Ive met in my life. :pachaha:

As long as I can.

I wont need a part time job anymore so ill donate my time to the community, the gym, my family and traveling.

That's great man.

I've been volunteering for about 6 or 7 years now in one way or another.

One of the best things I've been told is that you will not be able to help (save is the word she actually used) everyone. Some of those kids are gonna end up as screwed up as they woulda been anyway. And if you care, which one can assume you will since you're doing this in the first place, it hurts. There's nothing like seeing someone you look at like a little cousin losing their way and on the corner or homeless or failing school. It sucks and it will happen.

On the other hand, there are clear cut examples where you help em out, they really do make something of themselves, and they thank YOU for that. That sticks with you forever.

We had one dude, said in his family you're not a man til you've spent time in prison. Craziest thing I've ever heard anyone say. Went though our program, lost track of him and saw him at the store a few years later. Saw me, said hi but he was in a rush cuz he was studying for a biochem test the next day.

Look for something thats been around for a while. You might end up with some good career contacts too so look who runs the organization. Good luck breh
