Scarface may well have been an overrated movie at one time, but you'll hardly see it brought up today without at least one person pointing out how overrated it is.
As far as movies are concerned, Scarface is still pretty fukking crazy even by today's standards. De Palma captured Miami's sleazy opulence through an overindulgence of visceral violence and drug use that would be shocking even in 2021. The intoxicating color palette employed by De Palma alone is enough to tell a story.
It's a nice change of pace from your typical gangster flick. The final product is certainly unique.

The only time in the movie you see fear in Tony's eyes is after Sosa warns him.
Speaking of which I would have loved to see DePalma and Stone make a movie on Sosa's life with the same actor, had he not died.

Chi-Chi doesn’t get enough respect. He was there from beginning to end, starting out grabbing the yayo to finally getting clapped up defending homie. Eventually Manny was gonna press for his own independent venture like Tony did Frank but Chi-Chi was like Luca Brasi from The Godfather, happy with the goon life

Why didn't Tony flee Miami and went into hiding after the call with Sosa? He definitely knew what was up after not following orders and (rightfully) disrespecting Sosa through the phone. I know machismo is a thing but Sosa is a major cartel boss who will and has hunted down his enemies to the last second. Tony didn't stand a chance whatsoever.
nikka was super coked up and probably figured he at least had a day or so to get ready to go to war with sosa...dude brought that shyt to his fukking doorstep that same night
