All this talk about it being overrated is funny because it was widely panned by critics when it was released. Tony Montana is an iconic character. Everyone at some point has imitated him, even other actors. Oliver Stone said Tom Cruise does a great Tony Montana impersonation. The hood made it a cult classic.

For Pacino fans, it was a perfect Ying to the Godfathers Yang. He was so cool, calm and calculated in those GF films. This film allowed Al to be over the top and go super gangsta for his fans and his craft.

It was an Al Pacino/Oliver Stone vehicle. Pacino starred and Stone wrote it. Gave Stone a career and elevated Pacino even higher.
