This is, frankly, one of the Top 10-15 best produced rap albums of all time. Their debut was cool and all but this surpassed it.

Just straight up classic song after classic song on this joint. Lyrics were pro-black and yet so chill. They used live instruments too which made this shyt even doper.

They captured that summer, hanging out outside/block party vibe PERFECTLY. :banderas: Def one of the best albums to play on a summer night. It also helped me get thru homework in college.

Both features did their thing even thought you can barely hear Jeru rapping on "Graffiti"

Oh and "For Corners" is one of the best outros of all time. I'm talking It Ain't Hard to Tell/Suicidal Thoughts level.

^This is where 9th Wonder got his moniker I believe

Let's discuss this severely underrated classic

And both of their albums are as great as can be without actually being a classic IMO if that makes sense. I won't argue if somebody else considers them classic though.

i understand. sometimes it might be too easy of a listen, where really nothing JUMPS at you. But but at the same time you can't really find a flaw in it.

the vibes just overtake me man:banderas:

5 stars, dap and + rep :salute:

definitely better than reachin' :mjcry:

both albums are the definition of smooth though :wow:

but blowout comb is that album. i feel like by second time around, they sounded more focused and in tuned with their material and had found their voices as artists and as far as an album goes. now while the "rebirth of slick (cool like dat)" single from their debut album reachin' is what the mainstream remembers them for, i think of blowout comb as a classic album

i mean, look at how great the album cover alone was, black excellence :blessed:

Didn't even see this on the front page, just made a thread about their debut.

:salute:

Blowout Comb ain't seeing Reachin' no how no way.

No way in hell...and I really like both albums. I think Blowout has some better stand out cuts but Reachin is the better body of work.

This is where for me the "classic" debate begins to get a little convoluted. For some it's about flawless/froint to back quality or impact ect.

It's plenty of "classic" albums from that era that in my view wouldn't play front to back as well as reaching, not even close. If we make it about "replay value" and how the music can sound years and years down the line it's plenty of "classics" that are still perfectly classic while sounding dated.

I don't think anybody would argue against Doggystyle as a classic record, but I would easily say it sounds much more dated, is less relevant lyrically/socially than either of digables albums. Albums are like children man, they have their own special qualities that you find to love about them.

Dope album - might have been a little ahead of its time. Reminds me a lot of the stuff that was being put out by Talkin Loud in ththe UK in the 90's.

Definitely set the table for some of Ish's new material

Blowout Comb and KMD 'Black b*stards' are two classics that don't get they credit

Anybody putting 'reachin' over BC....really really needs to listen again....muscially, lyrically, concept wise......reachin (which was dope) sounds like a damn DEMO TAPE compared to Blowout Comb
