nah. i'm a semi-street dude. college-educated, cultured, articulate, etc. but i gravitated to the streets from my suburban origins, becoming a part of that life for a good while, and that's where my music comes from. i don't listen to corny rap, and i think kendrick is corny. his music is corny. i'm glad there's a positive brother out there doing his thing. good for him. we need positive role models for the kids. but i think you can be positive without being corny. lupe fiasco is a positive mc who isn't corny, imo. kendrick is corny. a lot of his fans are probably just as corny, which is why i don't know any kendrick fans.

but i suspect most of kendrick's fans are white.

drake is definitely corny, but it's a different kind of corniness the same kind kanye suffers from. kendrick's corniness comes from the way he rhymes and his forced swag. i just can't get down with that. his voice literally makes me go

Drake has had a lot more impact than Kendrick in the scope of his career, but GKMC was definitely an album that I think made nikkas stop and really listen and re-think their rap shyt a bit. IMO that album made an immediate splash upon dropping, and Hip-Hop responded to it well. Drake's entire sound and lane is pretty much his entire impact on Hip-Hop in this day and it shows. nikkas wanna do everything Drake puts his name on. He's clearly the bigger artist. I realized this the day he dropped that Say You Will freestyle and suddenly every rapper had problems they wanted to say on that beat.

Kendrick is dope though, and IMO the way he puts his albums together is unique among his peers and really brings the music together. Not only is it telling stories and conveying themes in context to the album, it has a message even on some standalone shyt without the skits. Just the way it "fits" with the album's concept is dope to me.

Both dudes are leaders of the new school, but Drake and Kendrick aren't on the same level. And this is coming from a straight K-Dot stan.
