It is pretty simple. They blame Jewish people for Jesus being crucified. Remember that vote that was held to save Barabbas or Jesus? We know the real culprit was the Roman Government, but they want to avoid at all cost placing blame where it really belongs. Keep in mind that Rome took control of the religion, so of course they would do that.
