I'm still amazed by how the CGI in Jurassic Park still looks better than Modern films

still my personal all time favorite movie ever. so ill admit biased, but i watch this movie at least once a year and this movies effects hold up to many of todays films. a testament to how ahead of its time T2 was. Ill admit Jurassic Park is right up there too

T2 wasn't all CGI though was it? I mean specifically a lot of the action scenes. It was a combination I do believe.

Either way it was well ahead of its time and still one of my favorite films ever. I watch it every six months.

I gotta disagree. Watched this movie for the first time a few months ago and was dissapointed. It might have been nice for its time but compared to shyt out now its basura.

And for all the idiots sayin CGI now sucks. YOU CANT TELL THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN REAL LIFE AND CGI ANYMORE. There are so many movies coming out that are using CGI and most people have no clue because it looks indistinguishable from real life.

Once again watch the making of the Avengers. The entire fight scene at the end was completely CGI. All the way to the cars and buildings in NYC. I had no clue that it was CGI during the movie because it looked just like the real thing.

a lot of that wasn't CGI, it was good ole fashioned animatronics. kind of wish hollywood stuck with that over CGI, comes out way more realistic.

This. Jurassic Park was about 80% practical effects, 20% CGI, according to the effects team themselves. What this really goes to show is how all this overuse of CGI actually looks worse than the good, old-fashioned practical effects. That's not a knock on CGI- it has its place for sure, but it hasn't reached the point where it can do everything and anything well, despite it being used that way.

The problem is that CGI is being used more and more to the extent that practical effects is becoming less viable from a business perspective, since the people who do the work find less work, but also dying as an art. It's a shame, because in actuality, it doesn't just look better- it's also much cheaper than CGI in most cases. The studios won't listen, though.
