Funny thing is that there are lots of black people out here that think this way. I'm Haitian (was the first in my fam to be born in the US) and have had cats go, "You can't say "nikka". You're not black, you're Haitian."

Regarding Roberto Clemente....

He hated Spring Training in the United States.
ST is done in the South because of the warmer weather in the winter months and to them, he wasn't looked upon as a Puerto Rican or Latino. They just saw him as another black man. And in the 1950s, you already know what that was like. In Puerto Rico, there just wasn't/isn't that same kind of internal racism that the US South had.

There are some fascinating stories if you ever get a chance to read "Clemente" by David Maraniss.
It's a great book.
