I'm thinking about seeing a counselor or psychiatrist

I would say that speaking to a therapist to help you get to the crux or the core of what is bothering you may be key.

Therapy doesn't automatically mean you have mental issues, sometimes you need an expert on the mind when life has you overwhelmed.

Clean eating and fitness helps plenty, but if your mind isn't right, the benefits will not be felt as much. Some people workout to escape their issues, it's just that the workout high won't kill you.

If just telling someone to workout or eat better was that simple, America wouldn't be number 1 in people taking depression meds and obesity.

Some folks may just need to hear that they are just going through a rough patch and that one session was all they needed.

So my simple answer would honestly be, do both if you can. You need to take care of yourself both emotionally/mentally and physically.

Speaking to someone for an hour who won't judge you, then heading to the gym after for 45mins-1hr, going home and eating a clean meal, getting a good night sleep.

That would be the goal. Work on everything at once, so it feels like you are making headway.

I go to my first BJJ class on Monday so, I would say this therapy/depression drug stuff does something :yeshrug:

Would have never thought to even try it :wow:

:salute: Op. I'm in great physical shape and pretty much do keto and low carb. Been working out for like 6 years and at my max was about 6'0 197. Been depressed and anxious since a kid, went to therapy at 14 and 21 and both were terrible,

Had a bad breakup and lost 20 pounds. Still working out and all that jazz but still messed up mentally and was not eating. Now I'm at this weight and do calisthenics in the gym and that's cool. I do bjj and that's amazing. What happens in those hours in between though?

That time after you eat healthy and workout out I sometimes feel like I'm in purgatory. 8 or even 9 hours of sleep and I still can't focus remote at work or studying for certs.

I'm going to see a psychiatrist next month when my insurance with my new job kicks in. Been talking to a pastor and going to church and reading the bible also.

Try it out, at least shyt this is my third time, don't give up.

I got money on you needing less therapy after 3 bjj sessions a week minimum for 6 months. :ohlawd:

You'll be like damn I had issues but I suddenly don't give a shyt about them, I know Brazilian Jiujitsu.

I swear these dudes have succumbed to Larry and it's like an amplifier on the common stress that men have to deal with.

If you have mental health problems you need to be as sober and fit as possible. Talking won't get you out.

Enjoy the journey and remember to tap early.:myman:

Don't sit on the mat with both palms behind you like tra la laaaa either. Lastly, don't be sitting on the mat on your hips like a woman on the couch.

Do the full warmup.

Do the full class
Spar with 5 people after class. 3 minutes a piece minimum And you're good.

If you're still feeling like o I'm so depressed like you were Before BJJ? I'll buy you a meal.

I'm extremely skeptical and I don't want to end up being prescribed medication or being milked for my health insurance but I feel like that's going to be the end result 9/10.

I'm only considering it because I think there could be value in having a different perspective on what I feel are consistent problems in my life. :francis:

Anybody have experience? Did it make any difference? Would you do it over again?

Just be up front that you don't want meds....

Excercise, like cardio is superior to cbt.

If you
Drink coffee
Drink booze
Smoke
Don't excercise
Don't drink water

And have anxiety?

No amount of conversation in the world will cure you without pills.

Get fit and see how real your problems truely are.
I’m fit as hell, I took Xanax for years to control my anxiety and my therapist got me off of it by figuring out the root of it. CBT is the gold standard right now man.

While I don't have the experience I know people that do and it has helped them with no meds involved, essentially YOU need to fix the problems in your life it may be therapy (which I think we all need) give it a try if you're not feeling it leave

Good luck

make sure they look like you.

be careful what you disclose.

homicidal thoughts should be kept to yourself. any criminal activity, keep to yourself. any suicidal thoughts, keep to yourself unless you're seriously considering it.

I had a bad experience with this in the past. Basically I wasn't taking care of myself and lost a lot of weight and muscle. My parents took me to the hospital but I fukked around and ended up in the psych ward because I was too honest :francis:
