It was the hype, if it was a mixtape would have thought that is was cool, for the beats at least but from a studio Jay album I expect something, I expect good lyrics from Jay, and even a few classic songs, I wasn't impressed from a lyrics stand point consistently throughout a whole song. Lyrics are important to me, as much beats, didn't feel all the production either, bored me a bit, but some of the beats I really liked, I would have preferred an instrumental album of this CD. Never thought I'd say that about Jay Z, I actually have defended him to some people I know more critical of him but let me down here, disappointing, lyrics were pretty boring to me for the most part, you compare it to Nas' Life Is Good (yes it's cliche but they on similar levels mainstream wise) and Nas makes Jay's lyrics sound whack, Nas flows better on the album, has better content, he makes Jay sound whack if you compare both albums, I would easily take Daughters over the whole CD, and I find that embarrassing cause Jay is supposed to be an elite MC, I get some people like it but I'm entitled to my opinion also.

There's a stickied thread up top doing Meek Mill numbers dedicated to this album yet you fukk nikkas continue to crowd the rest of the forum with MCHG threads?:stunnadahell: None of y'all is posting anything enlightening enough to warrant starting new threads. Nobody gives a fukk if you personally think it's classic or trash after two tracks:aicmon: Nobody wants to go along on your damn fantastic voyage of listening to the album. Give it a fukking rest.

I don't even think anyone legitimately likes the album. I think people are merely praising it due to hype -- because it's simply a new Jay-Z album. Kinda like how every time a new Final Fantasy game comes out people praise it regardless of how bad it is.

People are simply weak-minded and easily influenced by multi-million dollar advertisement campaigns that tell you, "Buy this album. It is good".

:stopitslime:

People try to paint me as some kind of hip hop "purist" and I legitimately like the album. I don't pay attention to most media, don't watch TV, don't even be on youtube much since they started playing commercials, none of that is a factor when it comes to be nickles and dimes being one of my favorite songs right now.

it's simply a bad album

other than it selling a lot, if offers nothing but typical brag raps over queer ass beats. the only thing missing is autotune, and that's only because this dude tried to kill it (unsuccesfully).

final fantasy do be good... well besides 11 and i never got 2 play 13 but i heard it was average.... this new jay album just seems like he was rappin while he was sittin down the whole time.... its very formulaic.... i mean i dont mind the fact that hes still bragging an entire album, its just if youre going 2 do that make it GOOD... he only shows flashes of greatness this album, its more like hes playing in a championship game vs a #10 seed so he feels he can relax and breeze through.

Rock bands, especially ones back in the day, used to go at it all the time. Always beefing with each other. In interviews, doing subliminal stuff at live shows, even a few of the lyrics were jabs at each other. Just because rock bands don't typically make diss records doesn't mean that the competition was any less aggressive. Those dudes were always fighting for the top spot.

When I mentioned Pink Floyd, I meant competing with their own catalog. There will never be another Pink Floyd or "Dark Side." Just like it will never be another R. Kelly or "12 Play." These artists have no one to answer to.

daps pos rep but dont waste your time with most of these people about other music.

they probly think pink floyd is a new mixed drink

and you are 100 on competition always being there. i remember reading a book on jimi hendrix where clapton himself said the first time he saw him he had a tear in his eye because of how good he was. it also fueled him to step his game up and he damn sure did.

competition has been around forever. yall should read some books about the god sinatra. he didnt take shyt from anyone and was always on some beefing shyt

the difference is they did it like men and just let the music speak for itself.
