Did he have those specific problems in 2000 tho? cause I think he was DPOY runner up that year but I really don't remember tho ..but yeah you right about the doubling ..That nikka was athletic af that year tho lol
That was before they allowed the zone. Under the old rules you couldn't double someone until he had the ball. They changed this after Shaq beat up Dikembe a year later in the finals like he stole something from him while he was defensive player of the year. Until then he was allowed to go one on one with his matchup to get positioning with his matchup on the low block and the other team couldn't do anything about it. Shaq was all defensive second team, largely off his ability to anchor the paint. He wasn't being pulled away from the rim to have to defend pick and roll plays at a breakneck pace all game while his matchup could shoot 3's.

Why didn't he average that in '04 against the Pistons?

Down low hell yeah the Warriors get obliterated. But why would they just let the Lakers set Shaq up down low over and over again?

Remember, big men are only as dominant as the system they play in. With back to the basket bigs the guards are responsible for feeding them the ball. So if you have a dominant big ala Shaq you go after his guards HARD and force them to beat the trap to get the ball in the post.

This does two things: if they DO get the ball to Shaq its an easy layup and you didn't waste a foul. If they DON'T get him the ball that means they probably turned it over and then you get out in transition and RUN RUN RUN. At this point now you have the Lakers playing transition ball which favors the Warriors. Dubs in 7.

So was '98 Shaq not 00 Shaq or something becuase the Lakers got destroyed by a team that is worse than the current Warriors that year....
Cuz 98 kobe wasnt 2000 kobe. Yall nikkas need stop.

You know uhhh...Shaq was like 100+ lb heavier than Ben right?...actually imma just leave this here

And the Lowndes County breh was probably just as strong. Shaq was a big wide body that no one could really guard 1-on-1 but Ben was probably one of the best to do so. I think Shaq dominated like 2 games that series and Ben was BBQ chicke most of the time when Shaq got it deep in the box but outside, Shaq was battling. Kinda unrelated, it was crazy Big Ben was like the 3rd shortest dude in the starting line up..lol

they'd take the same approach the '04 Pistons did

Let Shaq crack 50 if he wants, go back and forth between throwing KD/Iggy/Klay at Kobe to keep him working, and just depend on being the GOAT shooting + efficiency team to put up points

Why didn't he average that in '04 against the Pistons?

Or in 97 against the Jazz?

or in 98 against the Jazz?

Why did Shaq EVER lose at anything according to y'all:mjlol:

The Warriors would just let him get his and shut down the rest of the team. That blueprint has been used to stop Shaq-led teams over and over again.

They would pick and roll shaq to death...saw would definitely get his and force golden states hand they'd have to keep mcgee and zaza on the floor much longer than they'd want too but on the other end it'll be a lot of screens that shaq wouldn't step up on in the end shaq would still dominate tho but his mere presence wouldn't equate to a win
