IIRC, Kawhi recruited KD first... so Kawhi was willing to forfeit the 2020 season for a chance to win with a healthy KD in 2021, but KD said no/he already committed to BK with his bud Kyrie.

Then Kawhi recruited Butler... but Butler said no, he already committed to Miami.

Then Doc said PG was available via trade and Kawhi said get that mf'er. Doc tried to walk it back once OKC gave him the asking price but it was "too late".

So 7 years after that big 2019 offseason, all of them -Kawhi, KD, Kyrie, Butler, PG, + Russ and CP3- have failed to win a single title between them in that time span.

idk what was what. All i know is what was put out there at the time. Kawhi wanted to go back to Southern Cali and it was between the Clippers and Lakers. Everyone assumed it was going to be the Lakers. Clippers may have been Kawhi's first choice, but he didn't feel that team had enough to compete. He got PG, and that was enough for him.

And George was like top 3 in MVP voting that 18-19 season also, so it wasn't like he got just his man to carry his weed.

UNless you have something written from those close to the situation to support your theory, I am going with what was put out at the time.

People forget they actually had two max slots and they were coming off a near 50 win season. The real what if is what if Jimmy or KD or shyt even Kyrie goes there AND you still have SGA.
