Yeah Blockbuster could've acquired Netflix for $50 million. But it was easier predict that search would be huge vs Netflix since it was before streaming.

But we already had multiple search engines...shyt Yahoo was one. Remember Yahooooooooo in those commercials. I'm not sure what Google had at the time that would make them think it would be anything close to what it is. Conversely content on the internet shoulda been a no brainer for any CEO back then. How do you watch the transition from VHS to DVD and not be ready for that next inevitable transition? Especially after what we saw with music.

Google was one of may search engines in the early 2000s. Nobody was really using it like that because it was bare bones asf, didn't have a gimmick and was full of ads. Had these larger companies bought it out, Google wouldn't have been forced to innovate. They would've bought it then shelfed it.

Google's methodology and algorithm to generate search results based primarily on links instead of just text on webpages made their results better than competition. If Yahoo acquired Google they could've implemented that search algorithm and marketed the better results.

Yes, Yahoo probably wouldn't have extracted as much value out of Google search as Google ultimately did. But it's undeniable they would've extracted way way way more than $1M out of Google.
