In 2013, even the CLEAN versions of classic DMX songs wouldn't get radio/video spins

Particularly this song.

This is the clean-video version and it would get no play on any radio/TV channel if it was new. The whole 1st verse would have the media all over him. :merchant::huhldup:

That 'Where Da Hood At' shyt was wack anyway... :manny:

And yeah it would get play... if it was getting a push from a big label like Def Jam pushed him, and people were buying it, it would happen. You think radio/video stations in '98 played his shyt because they respected his skill? :russ: These muhfukkas play whatever they're 'influenced' and/or paid to. Most of these program directors don't know shyt until everyone else tells 'em it's hot. I've seen it firsthand.

How soon we forget, this nikka came thru during a time when you had to put on a shiny suit and get an 80s sample for the radio to even fukk with you strong. And the reason he was able to bust thru that is because he had co-signs, features on high-profile singles, and a strong promo push. If he had been on Duck Down Records making the same exact songs/videos, he would've been getting Heltah Skeltah airplay.

Low key it's not a 100 percent bet "Get At Me" wouldn't be censored these days

And I don't mean the song I mean that actual phrase

So a song with lyrics like this is gonna get pushed in 2013?

nikka would be all on CNN having to apologize.

Man, cats don't know what it's gonna be
messin with a dog like me, D-to-the-M-to-the-X
Last I heard, y'all cowards was havin sex, with the same sex
I show no love to homo thugs
Empty out, reloaded and throw more slugs
How you gonna explain boning a man?
Even if we squashed the beef, I ain't touchin ya hand
I don't mess with chumps, for those to been to jail
That's the cat with the Kool-Aid on his lips and pumps
I can't deal with brother that think they broads

Only know how to be one way, that's the dog

I don't remember that song getting that big of a push anyway... that's when Def Jam started falling back on X (he still moved units but that support wasn't the same as before). And media's been sensitive as fukk since way before that song dropped.

I'd say the mid/late-90s was the last time artists and TV shows REALLY had a lot of freedom with the lines they could cross. Sometimes I watch In Living Color AMAZED at the fact that a lot of that shyt made air.

Yeap. They never aired it when it was out, and X refused to change the lyrics. Matter fact, when he was asked to do it, he flipped and said "I don't make my muthafukkin' music for them!". He didn't get a vid played on MTV until "How It's Goin' Down", and this is after the album dropped.

Which kinda had me like  when they played it on MTVJams a couple weeks back when they did 90s Weekend... cause they never actually played it during the '90s.

These type of joints peaked higher than any dmx song besides Party up and Get at me dog

Not as hard maybe as X probably hardest single, but if they could get play I don't know why DMX wouldn't get play (except for his music being old).
