Martin is way overrated 'round here
shyt was not THAT funny

martin as she nay nay and Jaime as Wanda, all kinda got burn from in living color and the black owned property endorsing the next wave of black endorsed white comedians like richar pryor did with robin and his white gang of comedians and Jim Carrey's female body builder character.
so in that window and fox network being involved revenue grabbing off the black community and forgetting they got to the dance by black dollars and their whole agenda under the current is how all that shyt arose consistently on the network.
it just so happened back then that actual idea was not taking in the same manner as it takes now.

which is why this thread does pose a good question.
as hopefully it can talk about the connotation being different back then and how at the time they were trying and failed to get that connotation they have now to stick back then.

nikkas dont talk about flip wilson on here....they always mention pryor, some are
heavily against him because his shyt is pretty public, but others give him the comedians pass

Flip is a controversial topic sometimes.
I never got a good idea, what the perception of him was.

Flip was kinda the bridge between Cosby and Richard

He was someone who was funny, black people loved him at first, then white people really started to like him (kind of like chappelle) and black people focused on other comics who were doing their thing. I havent heard any older cats, (mainly family) talk bad about him...he had a show that was really popular. But he did his thing and got out he didnt have no cosby show, no sanford and son, no movies like pryor and stuff.

Yeah, all that was more an issue with the viewership than the actual character.:mjpls:
Maybe but a lot of black people, especially the older gen and people in intellectual circles (like Howard) considered that character a modern day minstrel show. The portrayal was like the premise of the movie "Bamboozled" black people playing stereotyped versions of black people for a paycheck and hurting themselves and the black community in the process.
