Plesae note...this thread was not made to discredit the impeccable contributions of DJ Premier...at all!
I personally loved how he swtitched his own styleom Nhttp://www.thecoli.com/forums/the-booth.3/create-threado more Mr.Nice Guy/Step into the Arena to Moment of truth. He haas produced for some of the dopest rappers to ever touch the mic (Big Shug, Nas, Royce, Gangstarr, Jeru, etc)...but when it comes to musicial ingenuity Dilla has Preem beat.
Dilla played the drums on this track, which contains a lovely sample of "Holding You, Loving YOu" by Don Blackman
(also sampled for People Under The Stair's "Give Love a Chance")
Can't forget about this jam from Welcome To Detroit...this little Kraftwerk synthpop ode/oddyessey. and it don't get more detroit then that. Taking white european kraut rock electropop making it somthieng acceessible...and this was way before AFrika BAmbatty even used that record. IT was broken by a black DJ in Detroiut in the early 80s/late 70s.
Then there was this magic....sampled for "Players" off of Fantastic Vol.2

What's magical about that? The Vocal sample says "CLaire" but dilla was in the studio telling T3 and Baati that if they repreated itenough times,it would confuse the listener to make them think it said "Players".
Last but not least...probably the biggest sign of how influential Dilla was
This nikkas was teh ONLY rap nikka sampling techno...specifially the legedndary Daft Punk
Guy and Thomas heard the track and we're cool with it...and asked SLum Village and Dilla to remix one of their tracks for the Discovery remix collection that came out in 2002.
