The only reason why people question the trade is because if it wasn't made, Knicks could have possibly signed Melo outright if he didn't re-up with the Nets in the summer. All comments from Melo & Donnie Walsh say otherwise, but I get why some people think differently
But let's stop pretending like Melo wasn't worth those players in any other situation. These aren't exactly all-stars we gave up. If Melo wasn't trying to leave, Denver would've hung up the phone before Walsh even finished the trade proposal.

that squad would be if they had merely added Melo to the mix that was 5th in the East at the time if I'm not mistaken. Instead they traded every impact player not name Amare for the nikka and have won fewer playoff games (and overall games for that matter) than the Nuggets since the trade. No hind sight on my part I said that he's a one dimensional player and that a team would be foolish to gut their roster for him.
