In Retrospect: How dumb was it for NY to trade for melo last year...

The only reason why people question the trade is because if it wasn't made, Knicks could have possibly signed Melo outright if he didn't re-up with the Nets in the summer. All comments from Melo & Donnie Walsh say otherwise, but I get why some people think differently

But let's stop pretending like Melo wasn't worth those players in any other situation. These aren't exactly all-stars we gave up. If Melo wasn't trying to leave, Denver would've hung up the phone before Walsh even finished the trade proposal.

First of all, nobody was bytching about Amar'e Stoudemire when the team finally took off and everybody was chanting MVP at MSG, so for everyone to now sit and pretend that signing Amar'e was the most regrettable shyt in the world is funny. to Liquid: Denver's first choice was to keep Melo. They were only exploring deals after Melo made it clear that he wanted his money elsewhere. As for "nobody wanted come to NY" that's ducktales. It's not that nobody wanted to go to the Knicks. It was that the Knicks' financial situation was so bad it took years to clear it up just to have space to sign those guys. How dumb would the Knicks be to exclusively operate to clear cap space to hopefully sign guys they figured weren't interested? There's a reason why guys like LeBron, Bosh, Amar'e, etc. all entertained the idea of signing in NY despite the decade of incompetence. No other team would have that kind of demand in spite of their operation.

Now I'm not knocking the actual trade. I just knock the urgency or necessity to actually execute it. Melo woulda blown Dolan to be a Knick and LaLa woulda been too focused on her own career to even be mad if he did.

I wouldve agreed but actually the Knicks reloaded, we got Chandler, Shumpert, now with the Bird rights given to Lin and Novack theyll retain them, Knicks problem isnt depth anymore so I say the Melo trade worked out well, you got one of the top 3 scorers in the league

ah, but here's the thing. People knew Amar'e would eventually break down physically. They didn't expect it to be during his first year come playoff time. People were afraid of the back end of that 5 year deal, not the deal entirely.

Your second statement, there's nothing wrong with it, except you have to know by now New Yorkers can be some of the more irrational people on Earth. They want a championship. They don't care if LeBron/Wade/Bosh and Westbrook/Durant/Harden are supposed to dominate the NBA for the next 5 years. If the Knicks don't win a title, STAT and Melo will be viewed as failures.

I also remember before the trade my Knick brehs would repeat incessantly that the Nuggets have ZERO leverage and they better accept Wil, Eddy Curry and a 2nd or we'll lose him for nothing. it's a shame fat boi had to come thru and crush the buildings.

Melo was going to NY or Brooklyn regardless. He aint give a fukk bout amare, I dont even think them nikkas are cool to be honest.

Melo had a bad year the aside from april and he was hurt and playing with no point guard. If you look at his track record, you would know he would bounce back and get back up to his 25,26 ,27 ppg and over 45% shooting.

Melo was actually gonna re-up in denver until the decision, for some reason I feel like if lebron stayed in cle, melo was gonna stay in denver.

Also, I don't believe Melo was going to pass up money. He would have just signed with the Nets and then everyone would be screaming the Knicks were so dumb to choose Gallo over Melo.

Also, I'd make this trade everytime. Those same players were "garbage" and "not enough to get Melo" when they were Knicks. Once they were traded , it was " how could you give up Gallo and Chandler?! "

You don't think that pre-Melo squad could have mustered a 1-8 playoff record the last two years? Beyond that it's not a question of having Melo or not having Melo, it's a question of how that squad would be if they had merely added Melo to the mix that was 5th in the East at the time if I'm not mistaken. Instead they traded every impact player not name Amare for the nikka and have won fewer playoff games (and overall games for that matter) than the Nuggets since the trade. No hind sight on my part I said that he's a one dimensional player and that a team would be foolish to gut their roster for him.
