In retrospect, "In My Lifetime, Vol. 1" really ain't a bad album at all.

It's Jay-Z BEST album lyrically. But the forced for radio joints and shiny suit era influence is what damaged it from being a masterpiece. But lyrically, I do not see any other album he was more superior on. His lyricism, wordplay, flow and control were flawlessly amazing.

Agreed, that's my favorite Jay album.

I'm always mad he didn't separate the 2 different beats on One in a Million into 2 separate classic songs

There's a couple of weak tracks on there. Mostly the shyt puff touched.

Vol 2 is more comercial but it has no weak songs and jigga was raping his ass off on that shyt. Vol 1 is the worse of the Volumes

This is a FACT....He stepped UP from RD lyrically on this album

This is also my fav Jay-Z album and I hate that didn't blow up like it should have cause after this he started to dumb himself down...smh

Listen to Vol.1 then Vol.3 its like someone hit Jay over the head with a crowbar lol all that advanced shyt is gone by then

Sunshine was a good song but the video was so bad it killed the whole album

Great album....Never understood the hate it gets. Its the closet thing to Reasonable Doubt and Jay was even more confident/cocky on Vol.1. He was spitting so much game on that album....its one of the few I actually like from Jay.
I'll rate it atleast 4 Mics...the radio singles were only the weak tracks but I actually liked Sunshine :hubie:

"The mindstate of a nikka who boosted the crimerate
so high in one city, they sent National Guards to get me, shyt b"

that third verse on streets is watching... jay lost his fukking mind.

My street mentality: flip bricks forever
You know me and money, we like armed co-defendants
nikka we stick together
shyt whatever for this cheddar ran my game into the ground
Hustle harder until secret indictment time came around
Then you can look up and down the streets but I can't be found
Put in twenty-four hour shifts but, that ain't me now
Got a face too easy to trace, nikkas mouths got slow leaks
Had to hire a team of workers, couldn't play those streets
Stay out of space like Mercury, you jerkin me? Hectic
Had to call upon my wolves to send nikkas a message
I said this: "Let's play fair and we can stay here"
I'm trying to transform these boys II men like daycare :mindblown:
