In retrospect, "In My Lifetime, Vol. 1" really ain't a bad album at all.

Minus the terrible two (Sunshine & I Know What Girls Like), the album has always been fire to me.

4.5/5

That was it. Those 2 songs were so shytty (actually, really just "I Know What Girls Like" cause I've always been able to appreciate "Sunshine" for the shiny and glossy single it was) it threw off the whole album for me which is ridiculous now looking back because the album has tons of great songs.

People hate these songs but they were the precursors to Jay writing some phenomenal music. Those songs brought Jay outside of his lane, and really elevated him to even be able to do HKL and less conventional/underground music. Jay would have been the underground King. Sunshine, as much as nikkas clown it, got Jay on the radio.

A song like Sunshine was just Jay getting over on the radio and current sound of the time, that's all. Almost every artist does this at some point in their career.
