I like the author, I read his book last year, very insightful into the tech start up culture, also what I find interesting, is the taking of terms that represent underclass struggles, often through "illegal" activities, and started applying them towards the kinds of things that people who actual "grind" could never really fathom, in the context they are used.

I started noticing this, with the rise of Drake, which may be entirely coincidental, but friends of mine who worked white collar, some were former "hustlers" were saying "grinding" and "hustling" to describe simply working. Anyway, that's a whole aside, the articles scope is larger than that.

america is pretty much headed towards 3rd world country status. If you're grinding towards your own business, cool, but if you're grinding for some huge corporation, working yourself to the bone for no additional benefit, you're just being idiotic.

Those who don't want to spend their life in the grind should learn to invest or find other ways of making mostly passive income.

At first it's a lot of work in terms of preparation, with no financial reward, since newbies should be spending a minimum of a month (usually more) on a demo account before doing the real thing.

After developing strong fundamentals / experience, a seasoned investor can make money off a few hours of research and patient searching for opportunities each week. There's the psychological stress factor in terms of risk, but proper finesse minimizes risk and maximizes reward, also minimizing stress.

Unless you're doing so so that your kids can have a better life

My issue is that once all these companies see all of these employees 'grinding' and working extra hours for no extra compensation, that's going to start turning into the norm and become expected behavior. Salaries in general have been stagnant for a long time. With more people putting in extra hours for limited compensation, they are just willingly lowering not only their own salaries, but the salaries for everyone else.

That's what my parents did but I can't help but feel bad that they never got to really own their own business.

So I'm going to be the first in the family to do so. Have to break the mold. Sick and tired of my corporate job I feel like a fukking sell out its killing me inside.

If you work commission I can understand, but anything else is just being a bytch for your organization.

It's rough out there though, so I can't really judge anyone.
